Petition to Prime Minister against Exclusion Order of Dr Zakir Naik

Dear Prime Minister,

We the undersigned are writing to inform you that we believe the decision taken by the Home Secretary, Theresa May MP, to exclude Dr Zakir Naik, the eminent Islamic Scholar from India, from entering the United Kingdom to conduct a series of lectures as part of a Peace   Conference, is extremely disappointing, misinformed and does not espouse the values of lawful freedom of speech and open dialogue that we hold dear. This decision is likely to cause damage to community cohesion in our country and will prevent an opportunity for constructive   and progressive debate on the topic of interfaith relations and the freedom of expression.

This action will further serve to demonise the very voices within the world ready for debate and discussion. The tour would have been a golden opportunity for young Muslims who are eager to hear the true messages of Islam which promote understanding and harmony between communities.

Prime Minister, I would urge your government to re-consider the decision in the name of freedom and social justice and withdraw this exclusion order immediately.
